Packaging in the cannabis industry is challenging given the need to balance aesthetic, functionality, speed to market, and compliance to ensure packaging meets child-resistance regulations.
In Maine, only exit bags, edibles and topicals are required to be packaged in Child-Resistant (CR) packaging, but, where possible, Sweet Dirt has sought out packaging across product categories that is beautiful and functional, while ensuring the safety of children (and fur babies).
Sweet Dirt is also working hard to use and discover new and more sustainable packaging options. Below, please find a few key points on our current packaging:
Sweet Dirt’s Exit Bags are verified child resistant and made of plant-based raw materials in a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified factory powered by wind and other renewable energies.
Sweet Dirt’s Flower Bags are manufactured in New England in flexible packaging that reduces waste, energy use and greenhouse gas emissions over traditional flower packaging. Our bags are resealable and support extended flower shelf-life. Sweet Dirt flower bags are made with films that can be recycled wherever PE film recycling streams are available.
Sweet Dirt Pre-Roll tubes are made from 100% reclaimed ocean plastic and are 100% HDPE (#2 recyclable). The lids to our pre-roll tubes are child resistant.
Sweet Dirt’s concentrates are packaged in verified child resistant, highly shatter resistant glass jars with recyclable plastic closures.
Our concentrate boxes are made, here in Maine, with premium Sappi paper (also manufactured in Maine). Our boxes are manufactured using certified wind power and includes foil stamping that is solvent-free and can be recycled.
VAPE CARTS & PACKAGING
Sweet Dirt vape cartridges are ceramic and made from materials compliant with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rules and regulations for the parts that come in contact with oil or you, the consumer. Cartridges are tested for heavy metals using Phase 3 California compliance testing as a benchmark.
